Overview
Mark Davis is Professor of Publishing and Communications and Head of the Media and Communications program at the University of Melbourne, Australia, where he researches the impact of networked digital media on public culture. His main areas of focus are online anti-publics, the ‘culture wars’ and the platformisation of extremism, including the activities of white supremacists, ‘men’s rights’ activists, anti-climate science activists, and anti-vaxxers, with an emphasis on the convergence between extremism and mainstream political discourse in the west. He also researches the impact of digital media on cultural industries and the platformisation of culture more generally, with emphases on digital platforms in China and the west.
